About this micro-credential

This micro-credential recognises the ability to design, implement and improve apprenticeship programmes that effectively integrate work-based learning with vocational education and training. It reflects competences in applying inclusive and learner-centred approaches, using digital tools and smart learning solutions, and embedding sustainability principles into training design. It also validates the capacity to implement competence-based assessment and provide evidence-informed feedback, while ensuring quality, continuous improvement and alignment with evolving labour market needs within apprenticeship systems.

Learning outcomes

  • Explain key principles of work-based learning and apprenticeship systems including the roles of VET providers, companies and learners.
  • Identify appropriate pedagogical approaches for supporting learners in apprenticeship contexts including coaching, mentoring and inclusive practices.
  • Recognise suitable digital tools and smart learning solutions for specific training needs and distinguish between basic digitisation and effective smart learning.
  • Identify key elements of competence-based assessment and feedback in work-based learning including the use of evidence, criteria and feedback mechanisms.
  • Recognise basic principles of quality, sustainability and inclusion in training design within apprenticeship and VET systems.

Competency standards

  • Design and coordination of work-based learning processes Ability to design, organise and coordinate apprenticeship learning across workplace and VET contexts, ensuring alignment between tasks, learning objectives and assessment, and adapting learning pathways to real working conditions.
  • Facilitation of inclusive and learner-centred training Ability to guide and support diverse learners through coaching, mentoring and inclusive pedagogical approaches, fostering engagement, autonomy and equitable participation.
  • Digital competence for smart learning environments Ability to confidently select, apply and critically evaluate digital tools, platforms and emerging technologies (e.g. AI, immersive tools) to support teaching, assessment and collaboration in apprenticeship contexts.
  • Competence-based assessment and evidence-informed feedback Ability to implement structured, transparent assessment practices, use evidence from real work activities, and provide timely, actionable feedback to support skills development and continuous learning.
  • Quality, sustainability and continuous improvement in training systems Ability to monitor, evaluate and improve training practices, integrating sustainability principles and contributing to the resilience, relevance and innovation of apprenticeship systems.
