About this micro-credential

This micro-credential recognises the ability to understand and apply the foundations of digitalisation in the wood, furniture and cork production sector. It reflects competences in understanding Industry 4.0, cloud-based systems and Digital Enabling Technologies, and in identifying how digital solutions can improve production efficiency, traceability, resource management, logistics, competitiveness and sustainability.

It also validates the ability to analyse production processes, identify opportunities for digitalisation and contribute to an initial digital transformation plan supporting the transition towards more circular and digitally enabled production models.

Learning outcomes

  • Distinguish linear and circular economy models and compare their environmental implications in the wood, furniture and cork sector.
  • Explain the basic principles of Industry 4.0 and the role of connected and cyber-physical systems in wood-based production environments.
  • Explain the fundamentals of cloud computing and distinguish the roles of cloud, edge, fog and mist computing.
  • Identify Digital Enabling Technologies relevant to wood, furniture and cork production and recognise their main sectoral applications.
  • Assess how digital technologies can improve productivity, efficiency, traceability, logistics, resource management and competitiveness.
  • Analyse production and business processes to identify stages suitable for digitalisation.
  • Select digital technologies according to identified operational and production needs.
  • Contribute to an initial transformation plan integrating digitalisation with improvements in production, resource efficiency and waste management.

Competency standards

  • Circular economy and digitalisation in wood-based production: Ability to distinguish linear and circular economy models and understand how digitalisation can support resource efficiency, waste management and more circular production processes in the wood, furniture and cork sector.
  • Industry 4.0 and connected production systems: Ability to understand the foundations of Industry 4.0 and the role of cyber-physical systems, IoT, communications and the integration of physical and virtual environments in wood-based production.
  • Cloud and distributed computing fundamentals: Ability to understand the basic principles and structures of cloud computing and recognise the role of cloud, edge, fog and mist computing in connected production environments.
  • Digital Enabling Technologies in wood, furniture and cork production: Ability to identify relevant Digital Enabling Technologies and recognise their applications in improving production, traceability, efficiency, cost management and competitiveness.
  • Initial digital and circular transformation planning: Ability to analyse production processes, identify stages suitable for digitalisation, design an initial digitalised process structure and assess the feasibility, resources and improvements associated with the transition from linear towards more circular production models.
