HABITABLE

Quality and recognition

About the Micro-credentials Certification Centre

The Micro-credentials Certification Centre (MIC) is a digital service developed within the HABITABLE project to support the validation and certification of skills in the Habitat sector.

It operates as part of the HABITABLE Skills Hub and contributes to building a shared ecosystem for skills recognition, aligned with European priorities on lifelong learning, vocational education and training (VET), and the green and digital transitions.

The MIC is designed as an open and scalable system, allowing both project partners and external organisations to develop and promote micro-credentials.

The Habitat Sector Skills Certification Alliance

All micro-credentials available in the MIC are:

  • Issued by the Habitat Sector Skills Certification Alliance
  • Promoted by the organisations that develop them

The Alliance brings together from across Europe a network of universities, educational authorities, VET providers, research centres, companies and sectoral organisations. These entities collaborate to ensure that micro-credentials reflect real skills needs, are based on relevant competences, and are aligned with sector developments.

The Alliance is open to the incorporation of new organisations, supporting the continuous growth and sustainability of the MIC.

Quality approach

The MIC follows a structured and transparent approach to ensure the quality and consistency of all micro-credentials.

Each micro-credential is based on:

  • clearly defined learning outcomes
  • a transparent assessment method
  • an indicated EQF level, where applicable
  • defined workload and learning effort (hours and/or ECTS credits)
  • links to ESCO occupations, where relevant
  • alignment with European approaches to micro-credentials

This ensures that all micro-credentials are comparable, transparent and relevant to the labour market

Recognition and value

Micro-credentials issued through the MIC are not formal qualifications issued by public authorities. However, they provide strong sectoral recognition and practical value, as they are:

  • issued by a European alliance of recognised organisations
  • aligned with real labour market needs
  • designed to reflect competences required in the Habitat sector

They are particularly valuable for:

  • VET learners (I-VET) entering the labour market
  • C-VET learners and professionals seeking to upskill or reskill
  • organisations aiming to validate and structure competences

Alignment with European frameworks

The MIC is aligned with key European approaches and tools, including:

  • the European Qualifications Framework (EQF)
  • the European Learning Model (ELM)
  • Europass
  • European Digital Credentials for Learning (EDC)

This alignment supports transparency of learning outcomes, portability of credentials across Europe and interoperability between systems

Supporting progression pathways

Wherever possible, micro-credentials available in the MIC include information on:

  • pathways towards formal or nationally recognised certifications
  • links to existing education and training systems
  • opportunities for further learning and professional development

This helps users to connect micro-credentials with broader qualification pathways and career opportunities.

A sector-driven approach

The MIC is based on a sector-driven approach to skills recognition, where training providers, companies and other stakeholders actively contribute to defining and validating competences.

By combining structured validation processes, collaboration across organisations and alignment with European frameworks, the MIC contributes to strengthening the relevance, accessibility and impact of skills recognition in the Habitat sector.
